Schwanebeck, Dorothy A. (9 SEP 1925 - 25 SEP 2010)

 

PITTSVILLE -- Dorothy A. Schwanebeck, 85, of N495 Badger Ave., Pittsville, died peacefully at home with family at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010.

 

A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Sherwood. The Rev. Tom Hahn will officiate. Music will be provided by organist Mary Schwanebeck for congregational singing.

 

Burial will be in the town of Sherwood Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Ken Schwanebeck.

 

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Buchanan Funeral Home in Pittsville, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation also will be held Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.

 

Dorothy Annetta Jacobson was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Rockford, Ill., to Joseph and Thresea (Gehre) Jacobson. She was educated at Dewhurst School and attended Neillsville High School. Dorothy worked in Rockford, Ill., for a short time before marriage. She returned to the town of Sherwood and married Lester F. Schwanebeck on Feb. 15, 1945, at St. John's Lutheran Parsonage in Pittsville.

 

Lester and Dorothy farmed in the town of Sherwood. Dorothy was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking, quilting and sewing. She also enjoyed keeping in touch with friends and relatives by sending letters and cards. Dorothy loved going out to eat, but always welcomed everyone at her home with a good meal.

 

She cherished time spent with family, especially her grandchildren. She attended family reunions every August.

 

Dorothy was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid and the Sherwood Sewing Club.

 

Dorothy is survived by four children, Arnold (Linda) Schwanebeck of Pittsville, Patsy (Richard) Bretl of Wisconsin Rapids, Lee (Cheairee) Schwanebeck of Pittsville and Dennis (Peggi) Schwanebeck of Pittsville; a daughter-in-law, Colleen Schwanebeck of Pittsville; 15 grandchildren, Paul, Bryan, Adam, Kristine, Kelli, Jessica, Luke, Mike, Matthew, Mark, Summer, Ben, Tyler, Heather and Steve; and 17 great-grandchildren.

 

She is further survived by five brothers, Russell (Vivian) Jacobson of Pittsville, George Lavern Jacobson of Arpin, Richard (Mildred) Jacobson of Pittsville, Earl (Joyce) Jacobson of Rockford, Ill., and Jerry (Ellie) Jacobson of Pittsville.

 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester, on May 13, 2008; a son, Raymond Schwanebeck; and a grandson, Anthony.

 

Buchanan Funeral Home, Pittsville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
