Spencer, Joseph (11 June 1896 - 11 June 1960)

 

Funeral services for Joseph Spencer, Unity, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Christian Assembly of God church, Abbotsford, with the Rev. Lillian Jensen officiating. Burial was made at the Evangelical Lutheran cemetery at Curtiss.

 

Mr. Spencer died Saturday, June 11, on his 64th birthday at the Veterans hospital at Wood, Wis.

 

Rev. Jensen was assisted in the services by the Rev. Henry Gereau and Rev. George Samuelson. Pallbearers were Neal Green, Cornell Erickson, Lawrence Jensen, Warren Lewis, Hans Amacher and Allen Hawks.

 

Miss Jerry Harris sang "I Don’t Know About Tomorrow" and "The Last Mile of the Way," and Mrs. Duane Neuman sang "The Old Rugged Cross." They were accompanied by Mrs. Allen Hawks.

 

Attending flowers were Mrs. Martin Evanson, Mrs. Hattie Harris, Mrs. Roy Peterson, Mrs. Hans Amacher, Mrs. Arthur Steele and Mrs. Louis Weideman.

 

Joseph Spencer was born June 11, 1896, at Bear Creek, Wis., and received his education in schools of the area. He was married to Marie Borgemoen at Curtiss on May 15, 1920.

 

He was employed in Chicago for a number of years before moving to Abbotsford 18 years ago. He was employed here and also owned his own grocery store. He spent the past few years at Unity in the grocery business.

 

Mr. Spencer was a member of the American Legion, having served with the armed forces during World War I.

 

Surviving are his wife and a son, Robert, of Medford, and two grand sons, Brian and Barry. He is also survived by two aunts, Mrs. Nellie Swanson of Aniwa and Mrs. Eda Baurette of Wisconsin Rapids; an uncle, James Johnson of Tigerton; and a cousin, Mrs. Earl Tetzlaff of Milwaukee.
