Meinke, Gertrude (Marriage - 25 July 1959)

Miss Gertrude Meinke became the bride of John Alexander, Saturday, July 25, at Zion Lutheran church, Colby, at 2:00 o’clock. The Rev. William Christian performed the ceremony.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Carl Meinke of Route 1, Unity, and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Alexander of Abbotsford.

The bride appeared in a ballerina length gown which featured a scalloped Sabrina neckline edged in iridescent sequins and pearls. The brief sleeves were complemented by matching gauntlets. Scalloped tiers of embroidered nylon tulle over net and white satin made up the bouffant skirt.

Her veil of silk illusion fell from a crown of pearls and rhinestones entwined with silk illusion.

She carried a cascade bouquet of red roses and white carnations with huckleberry greens.

Friends of the bride served as her attendants: Miss Karen Runzheimer, Colby, as maid of honor, and Miss Nancy Roth, Abbotsford, as bridesmaid.  They were attired in identical ballerina length dresses of Nile green taffeta with overskirts of embroidered nylon net. A cummerbund of taffeta accented the bodice ending with a large bow. They wore matching headpieces. Their white gloves and pearl earrings were gifts of the bride.

They carried cascade bouquets of yellow pompons and white carnations with huckleberry greens.

Norman Meinke brother of the bride, was best man, and Donald Farning, a friend of the groom, was groomsman. Ushering duties were performed by Elmer Rapp of Marshfield and Myron Beck, Wausau.

A powder blue dress of lace over taffeta was selected by the bride’s mother. The groom’s mother chose a dress of black crystal. Both mothers had corsages of pink garnette roses and white carnations.

During the ceremony, Herbert Juneau sang "The Lord’s Prayer," and "O Perfect Love."

A reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents and a 5:00 o’clock supper was served at the parish hall. In the evening, a wedding dance was held Kolby Park.

The 80 guests attending the supper came from Colby, Abbotsford, Curtiss, Dorchester, Spencer, Marshfield, Wausau, Milwaukee, Franklin Park, Ill.; and Riverdale, Maryland.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Alexander left on a wedding trip to Yellowstone Park and will make their home at 715 ½ Spring Street, Eau Claire. Mr. Alexander is a senior student at the State College there.

Prior to her marriage, the bride was employed in the office of American Box Board Co. in Colby.
