Johnston, Robert James (9 Sept. 1893 - 28 May 1959)

 

Funeral services for Robert James Johnston of Fond du Lac, were held here Sunday afternoon at the Polnaszek Funeral Home. Mr. Johnston became ill Thursday morning as he was preparing to go to work and died shortly after at a hospital. He was 65 years old.

 

The Rev. Lawrence Faivre of the Presbyterian church conducted the services at 2:00 o’clock. Mrs. Faivre was pianist and Miss Jessie Merrill soloist.

 

Military rites were held at the Abbotsford cemetery, where internment was made.

 

Pallbearers were H. J. Amacher, C. J. Klieforth, Wilbur Kuehnast, Oscar Mellen, Clifford Chase, and William Lochness.

 

The many beautiful floral tributes were in charge of the Auxiliary to the American Legion.

 

Robert Johnston, son of the late Dr. and Mrs. G. B. Johnston, was born at Athens on Sept. 9, 1893, and came to Abbotsford when only a small child. He received his high school education at Abbotsford and worked in the Abbotsford Bank prior to World War I, in which he served as a lieutenant in the infantry. Since 1950, he had resided at Fond du Lac.

 

He was a member of the Trier-Puddy American Legion Post at Fond du Lac, the Masonic lodge at Abbotsford and the Presbyterian church.

 

He is survived by his widow, one son, Dr. Truman J. Johnston, Milwaukee; one sister, Miss Janet Johnston, Abbotsford; and two grand children, Robert and Mary Beth Johnston, Milwaukee.

 

Relatives and friends from away attending the funeral came from Milwaukee, Fond du Lac, Manitowoc, Wausau, Rothschild, Eau Claire, and Marshfield.
