Lamont, James R. (June 8, 1934 - July 17, 2010)

 

James R. Lamont, 76, Abbotsford, died Saturday, July 17 at Golden LivingCenter in Abbotsford.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, July 23 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby, with Rev. Daniel Hackel officiating. Interment of ashes was at St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery.


James Lamont was born June 8, 1934 to Malcolm and Stella (Heppner) Lamont.

 

He attended Abbotsford Public School and graduated in 1952, and played baseball, basketball and football. In 1961 he went to Fort Lewis, Wash., with the Army National Guard during the Berlin Crisis. While in the Guard, he was part of a barbershop quartet, which they continued back home.


On May 4, 1963 he married Darlene Grambort, who survives. In 1973, along with a group of politicians, he traveled to Saudi Arabia to meet with King Faisal about the oil crisis. He worked all his life for Lamont's Service Inc.


He enjoyed bowling and was on a number of teams. He was a fan of the New York Yankees and Green Bay Packers and attended the "Ice Bowl" in 1967.


In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother, Stella; four children, Patti (Doug) Klemm and Mary (Dan) Smola, both of Medford, and James II and John (Eve) Lamont, both of Abbotsford; a sister, Betty (Joseph) Kremsreiter of Abbotsford; six grandchildren, Blake and Brooke Smola, Trent and Jenna Klemm, and Kobe and Finley Lamont; an aunt, Bernice "Barney" Hamilton of Illinois; and two uncles, Robert "Butch" (Rhea) Heppner of Maiden Rock and Angus (Ginny) Lamont of Colby.


He was preceded in death by his father, Malcolm in 2004.

 

The Maurina Schilling Funeral Home of Colby assisted the family with arrangements.
