Fox, John W. (1 JAN 1921 - 3 AUG 2010)

 

WILLARD -- John Fox, 89, of Willard died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.

John Wayne Fox was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Britt, Iowa, the son of Lyal and Anna (Sillman) Fox. After high school graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the U.S. Army-Air Corps from Nov. 3, 1943, to July 7, 1945. John served in World War II as a bomber pilot aboard a B-24, dropping supplies to the soldiers below.

Upon returning to civilian life, John was united in marriage to Susan Beck on Aug. 10, 1945, in Tucson, Ariz. They farmed in Crystal Lake, Iowa, until April 1960, when they moved to Willard to farm. John also worked as a manager at the Feed Mill in Longwood and for quite a few years at the Wedges Creek Research Farm in the town of Seif.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; five children, Anna Louise Fox of Owen, Randy (Mary Jo) Fox of Willard, Kevin (Robin) Fox of Conroe, Texas, Mike (Carol) Fox of Janesville and Scott (Linda) Fox of Greenwood; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Carol Schulz, Doris (Earl) Schulz and Marjorie (Bob) Snyder, all of Iowa.

A memorial service for John will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Greenwood. The Rev. Curt Rohland will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the Wallace-Hinker American Legion Post 238 in Greenwood.
