Currie, Arthur J., Dr. (13 JUN 1888 - AUG 1966)

 

Dr. Arthur J. Currie, 78, of South Superior Street, veterinarian in Antigo sing 1955 and veteran of World War I and World War II, died last week at the Langlade County Memorial Hospital.

 

Dr. Currie was federal and state veterinary inspector during his many years of practice.  In 1963 he was presented an honorary service award in recognition of 50 years of meritorious veterinary service by the Wis. Veterinary Medical association.

 

A lieutenant in the First World War, he served as major in the second as Army post veterinarian at Camp McCoy in Wisconsin.

 

He was an active member of Frist Baptist Church, serving as church deacon was a member of the American Legion Post in Antigo and Greenwood Masonic Lodge No. 249, F & AM.

 

The son of late Mr. and Mrs. James Currie was born June 13, 1888, in Riverfield, Quebec, Canada.  He came to the United States in 1908 and in 1912 was graduated from McKillips Veterinary College in Chicago.  He practiced at Greenwood, in Clark County (Wis.) for many years.  From 1937 to 1955 his residence was at Elcho.

 

Surviving are his wife, the former Gertrude Street, to whom he was married March 8, 1919 in Milwaukee; a daughter, Mrs. Al (Betty) Henk of Danville, Ill.; and one granddaughter.

 

A sister, brother and grandson are deceased.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Soman and Rhodes Funeral Chapels.  The Rev. Selden Bernauer of First Baptist Church officiated and burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.

 

Mr. and Mrs. John Meng and Mrs. Rose Ludwig of Greenwood, attended the funeral.
