Hamm, Marjorie A. (21 JAN 1934 - 13 JUL 2010)

OWEN -- Marjorie Ann Hamm (nee Konik), 76, of Owen passed away July 13, 2010, at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

Visitation will be at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and at the church Friday one hour before the funeral service.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 16 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee with the Rev. Mark Neumann officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Withee following the service.

Marjorie, the youngest of four children, was born Jan. 21, 1934, in the town of Maplehurst to Andrew and Marguerite (Sorenson) Konik. She attended Riverside Country School, a one-room schoolhouse, through the eighth grade and graduated from Owen High School.

Marjorie Ann Konik was united in marriage to Robert Vernon Hamm on April 11, 1953, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee. They farmed in the town of Hoard until 1975, when their son purchased the family dairy farm. She continued to help with the milking and field work until the mid-1980s. Marjorie and Bob were active members of National Farmers Organization (NFO) in the '60s and '70s and made many life-long friends. She worked at Master Package Corp. in Owen for several years until retirement.

Marjorie enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, canning, quilting and sewing for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the seamstress of the family, making everything from dresses, spandex biking shorts and swim suits to patching everyone's jeans. Under the Christmas tree each year there was sure to be a half dozen nightgowns and PJs for the great-grandchildren, and everyone has a quilt made especially for them. Grandma's kitchen always was open, especially at breakfast time for anyone who showed up. Even the gas man knew what time breakfast was at Marge's and made his deliveries accordingly.

Marge is survived by two sons, Gerald (Alice) and Thomas, both of Owen; and 13 grandchildren: Jennifer (Jack) Vater, Emily (John) Moynihan, Steven (Bobbi Jo Nichols) Schroeder, Eric (Kristin) Hamm, Travis Hamm, Angela (Nathan) Petke, Megan (Jeffrey) Hallin, Amanda (Christopher) Rabuck, Mallory (Allan) Blasel, Danielle, Kayla, Rebecca, and Paige Hamm. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren; her sister, Betty Hansen of Northbrook, Ill.; her brother, James Konik of Owen; special friend, Ellis Bloedorn of Arbor Vitae; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; her parents; brother, Lawrence Konik; sister-in-law, Wanda Konik; and brother-in-law, James Hansen.
