Huntley, John #2 (3 Mar 1852 - 1 Jun 1913)

John Huntley died at his home in Ashland, Ore., Sunday, June 1, 1913, after a lingering illness of several weeks.  Last fall, during his visit here he underwent an operation at Eau Claire, which was entirely successful.  On his return home he was taken sick with pneumonia and later on an acute complication set in, in his foot, afflicting his entire limb.  A week ago he underwent another operation, his limb being amputated at the knee.  The operation was performed too late, his entire system being affected, and he passed away early Sunday morning. 

John Huntley was born March 3, 1852, at West Bend, Washington Co., this state, being the third child of Wm. and  Mary Huntley.  His father died when John was two years old.  He came to Clark County with his mother and family when 17 years old, driving through from Sparta in 1869, and was one of the first settlers in West Weston.  He was married to Ella Ketchum in April, 1882.  Later they moved to Neillsville and resided here until June, 1910, then moving to Ashland, Ore.  His wife died in Nov. 1910.  Mr. Huntley is survived by four children: Alice H. Murphy, Marian, Lee and Harold, all of whom were with him when the end came.  He leaves also three brothers, Richard of Chippewa Falls, Thomas of La Crosse, and William of this city, and one sister, Mrs. Annie Sufficol, of Denver, Col.

Mr. Huntley was a man of unsullied reputation and his character and integrity were of the highest standard.  He lived a life in strict accordance with the highest ideals of manhood and his death is a matter of universal and sincere regret.
