Golembiewski, Arlette Jo (10 November 1951 - 11 June 2010)

Arlette Golembiewski, 58, died Friday, June 11, 2010, in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield surrounded by her loving family.

Arlette Jo Golembiewski was born Nov. 10, 1951, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Nathan and Wilma (Cohen) Lakin. She graduated from Deerfield High School in Deerfield, IL, and then attended UW-Whitewater, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education.  While in college, Arlette met Phil Golembiewski.  They would later unite in marriage and spend 33 years together as husband and wife.  From college, Arlette accepted a teaching job in Neillsville, her one and only teaching job.  She had just completed her 34th years of working in special education.

Arlette loved to go shopping.  She also enjoyed going for walks and playing tennis, attending her husband’s concerts, reading and traveling; her visits included France, Italy and England.  First and foremost, though, she devoted her life and love to her family.

She is survived by her husband, Phil, who works in Neillsville as a workforce resource consultant, and her children, Sara, 28, and Stephen, 26.  Sara lives in Eau Clarie with her husband, Chad Hagedorn, where she is a school counselor in Chippewa Falls.  Stephen is living in Clarendon Hills, IL, working as a recreation coordinator for the Westmont Park District.  He is engaged to be married to his fiancée, Emily Pabich.  Arlette is also survived by her mother, Wilma, of Highland park, IL, and brothers, Ron (Audrey) Lakin of Highland Park, IL, and Jeffrey Lakin of Sunnyvale, CA.

She was preceded in death by her father, Nathan Lakin, and a brother, Steven.

A Celebration of Life Service for Arlette will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.  Following the celebration, friends are invited to stay at Gesche’s and reminisce on Arlette’s life with her family until 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Arlette Golembiewski Scholarship Fund.  A scholarship in Arlette’s name will be established by her family in the future so she may continue to help students for many years to come.

Online condolences may be made at www.geschefh.com.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Arlette’s family with funeral arrangements.
