Ronald James Kodl, Sr. age 66, of Thorp, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Monday, April 26, 2010 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Ron was born on April 14, 1944 in the Town of Thorp in his grandparents’ home to (the late) Albert and Mary (Czech) Kodl.  He attended Field School and later Thorp High School where he graduated in 1962.  During his school years he worked on the family farm and for Wild Cherry Cheese Factory. Ron was drafted into the Vietnam War and served from 1964 - 1966. After his discharge, he returned to Thorp where he met and married his living wife, Virginia Gutowski, on November 16, 1968.

In the late 60’s, Ron began a career in construction, where he worked for a number of prominent local companies over 20+ years.  In the early 90’s, Ron went back into the milk and cheese related business as a field man for Raber Cheese of Thorp, later ending his career as a field man for Dairy Farmers of America.

Ron was a proud member of the Thorp American Legion Post #118, the Forty et Eight Voiture Locale #821 and the Sons of the American Legion Post #118, having held various positions of leadership; the most notable being the Seventh District Legion Commander.  He was also active for many years in the Township of Withee and the Clark County Board as a supervisor.

Ron enjoyed fishing, hunting and generally spending time outdoors "tinkering" around the farm.  He will be truly missed by his wife, Virginia, of Thorp; his daughter, Julie (Mike Grant) of Thorp and grandson BoJaymes Baehr; his son Ron(Any) of San Carolos, CA and grandchildren Taylor and Alex; his mother Mary of Thorp; five brothers: Ray (Nancy) of Thorp, Rich (Lynn) of Thorp, Frank (Jane) of Lublin, Bobby (Arlene) of Thorp, Ken (Jeanette) of Thorp and two sisters: Vickie (Dennis) Looker of Withee, MaryAnn (Mark) Lew of Thorp, along with many nieces, nephews and extended relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Kodl, Jr.; and grandparents, Joseph and Pauline Czech and Albert Sr., and Stella Kodl.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. with rosary at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 29th at the Thorp Funeral home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 30th, 2010 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Church in Thorp, WI.  Fr. Keith Apfelbeck will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
