Evelyn Eva Strey, 90, Spencer, formerly of Loyal, died on Friday, April 16, 2010, in the Palliative Care Unit at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, with her family by her side. Funeral services were held at 7 p.m., on Monday, April 19, 2010, at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, Spencer. Interment was held at the Loyal Public Cemetery.

 

Evelyn Eve Smith was born on March 24, 1920, in Loyal, to Archie and Carrie (nee Vanderhoof) Smith. She graduated from Loyal High School. She married Arthur Strey on March 11, 1940, in Loyal. The couple farmed in the Loyal area for 46 years. After leaving the farm, she drove pilot car for oversized loads, finally retiring in 1998. Her husband died on April 14, 2007.

 

She enjoyed sewing and gardening, belonging to the Quilt Club and Loyal Gardening Club. She was also a member of the Clark County Saddle Club, and a long-time member of the Loyal United Methodist Church.

 

Survivors include her children, Richard (Marie) Strey, Neillsville, Thomas (Kay) Strey, Waco, Texas, Harry (Paulette) Strey, Loyal, Peter (Linda) Strey, Spencer, Jon (Connie) Strey, Spencer, James Strey, Granton, and Susan Butterfield; 28 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.

 

Preceding her in death were her loving husband, Arthur; her parents; a granddaughter, Lisa; and a grandson, Todd. Online condolences may be made at www.hansenschillingfuneralhome.com.Hansen-Schilling  Funeral Home, Spencer, assisted the family with arrangements.
