Makinen, Lydia (23 MAR 1888 - 7 JUN 1956)

 

Mrs. Lydia Makinen, 68, succumbed to an attack of pneumonia at the Havenet Nursing Home, Owen, with death coming at 5:45 Thursday morning, June 7th, 1956.  For 15 years she had been an invalid suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.

 

Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home with services being conducted at one-thirty o’clock Monday, June 11, from Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Owen, with Rev. John Saarinen, pastor of the parish, officiating.  Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Eldred Havelin, Wally Havelin, Matt Bombach, Ensio Bjorn, Einar Finnila and Frank Karye.  In charge of the floral offerings were Mrs. Eldred Havelin, Mrs. Wally Havelin, Mrs. Matt Bombach, Mrs. Ensio Bjorn, Mrs. Arnold Bjornstad and Mrs. Frank Karye.

 

Lydia Makinen, nee Lydia Sandstrom, was born March 23, 1888, in Finland.  In 1912 she came to the United States and on Feb. 23, 1917 was united in marriage to Moses Makinen at Wakefield, Mich.  The couple settled immediately on a farm south of Owen in the town of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.), where she had resided for the past 39 years.

 

Mourning her death are a son, Toivo at home, and a daughter, Mrs. Newell (Hulga) Wilson, both of Owen, one brother, Hugo Sandstrom of Herbster, Wis., and two grandchildren.
