Trewartha, Lowell (1958)

Lowell Trewartha, Madison, was fined $25 and paid court costs of $5.15, when he was arraigned in Judge Schoengarth’s court on a charge of carrying uncased guns in his automobile.

The complaint was signed by Warden Arthur Schroeder, who said he was investigating reports of someone shooting into the water in Black River.  The bullets had ricocheted in the direction of boys who were fishing.

The following day, the Warden said, he went to the location.  Shortly afterward Trewartha drove up, took a gun from his car and started firing.

Trewartha readily admitted shooting; but said he was unaware that the boys were in the area fishing.  He also told the court he was not aware that is was necessary to have guns encased when going target shooting.  His targets were turtles, he said.
