Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Harry (40th - 14 January 1958)

The 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Anderson was celebrated Sunday at their farm home in Levis with 50 relatives, neighbors and other friends joining in.

They were married January 14, 1928, in the Methodist parsonage in Neillsville by the Rev. Louis W. Coleman. The parsonage at that time was located on Grand Avenue, the residence now being occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Olson and family.

Harry Anderson was the son of the late August and Emma Anderson of Dewhurst, who had migrated to Clark County from Plato Center, Ill., where Harry had received his schooling.

Mrs. Anderson was the former Gretchen Horton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Horton. She was born in Watertown, S. D., but her mother died when she was a baby and her father brought her to Clark County and raised her on the William Horton farm, located in Levis Township; just north of the Anderson farm.  It was at the Dells Dam School that Gretchen Horton received her education.

After their marriage in 1918 they moved to Hazelhurst and shortly after; the young groom left for service in World War I.  In 1920 they located on the farm in Levis, on which they have made their home for 38 years.  They have a son, Wilbur, now living in Cashton.

Attending the anniversary dinner Sunday were 12 relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Chilling and Mrs. Emily Schilling of Altoona; Mrs. Esther Green of Merrillan; Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Schultz of Hatfield; Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Anderson and daughter, Sharon, of Cashton; Mrs. Floyd Hagie and grandson Bruce, of Levis; and Victor Horton of Neillsville.

During the afternoon and evening 38 friends and neighbors dropped in for a visit. A number of gifts were received in recognition of the occasion.
