Bogumill, Leon #3 (20 FEB 1893 - 8 MAR 1955)

 

Leon Bogumill, 62, and one of Thorp’s (Clark Co., Wis.) most prominent businessmen, died at 9:20 Tuesday night at Rochester, Minn., where he had been a medical patient at Worrell Hospital for about a week.  His death was due to a lingering illness which had retarded his activities for the past year. 

 

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 Saturday morning from St. Bernard’s Catholic Church at Thorp with Rev. Arnold Muckerheide officiating.  Burial will be made in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.

 

Friends may call tonight and tomorrow at Izydorek’s Funeral Home where the body will lie in state.

 

Leon Bogumill had been a lifelong resident of Thorp, being born there on Feb. 20, 1893.  After graduating from Thorp school system he launched a business career after graduating from a course in accounting.

 

For many years he served as village clerk, built the Thorp Dairy which today is known as the Blue Moon Foods Co., built the Farmer’s Store, the Thorp Theatre, was once owner of the Ford garage and was in partnership with Louis Gruzvinski in ownership of the Franklin Hotel in Rochester, Minn.  Throughout his entire business career he was a real estate broker, and was associated in the insurance and accounting business with the late C. B. Culberston, Stanley attorney.  He is also credited with being one of the original founders of the Thorp Finance Corp. and served as its first auction clerk.

 

Leon Bogumill served as secretary of the Thorp Lion Club for years, was a member of the P.N.A. at Thorp, member of the Foresters, retired fireman and a member of the Knights of Columbus at Medford.

 

He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Dekoskie whom he married on Jan. 20, 1916, one daughter, Mrs. Bernard Frenette of Thorp and a son, William of St. Louis, Mo; six sisters, Mrs. Charles Herman, Mrs. Thomas Polnaszek, Mrs. John Hils, and Mrs. Robert Blazel, Thorp; Mrs. Stanley Manicke Hartland, and Mrs. V.H. Stoker of Madison, four brothers, Thomas, Chicago; Frank of Hanibal; and Edward and John S. of Thorp, and three grandchildren.
