Carl, Ervin R. (18 September 1895 - 4 August 1957) 
 

Ervin R. Carl, 61, of Greenwood, died August 4, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital at Minneapolis, where he had been a patient since May 29. 
 

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greenwood. The Rev. T. C. Predoehl of Withee officiated.  Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.  Military rites were conducted at the grave. 
 

Mr. Carl was born September 18, 1895, son of the late Herman and Martha (Martin) Carl, in Pine Valley.  He received his education in the Pine Valley Mound School, and for 26 years was employed by Korman and Ghent in their wagon shop in Neillsville. 
 

On May 14, 1918, he entered service and served overseas from September until March.  He received his discharge on March 9, 1919, at Camp Grant, Ill.  Upon his return from the service he continued to work at the blacksmith trade.   
 

His marriage to Ida Wieting took place January 18, 1922, in Neillsville. 
 

On March 15, 1937, the Carl family moved to Greenwood, where he purchased a blacksmith shop which he operated up to the time of his illness.  While in Greenwood he served as mayor for several years, fire chief for 18 years, and was active in church and civic affairs.  He had been ill for the past two months. 
 

He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Men’s Club of the church, Wallis-Hinker Post, No. 238, American Legion, and the Greenwood Fire Department. 
 

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Marjorie Carl, Rochester, Minn.; three sons, Harland Carl of Madison, DuWayne of Eau Claire and Robert of Greenwood. 
 

Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Walter (Elizabeth) Borde, Edgerton; and six brothers, Gust, Alfred, Arthur and Harry, all of Neillsville, William of Medical Lake, Wash., and Ernest of Nekoosa. 
 

Funeral arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home of Neillsville.
