Hantke, Ruben (21 June 1899 - 22 November 1955) 
 

Ruben Hantke, age 56, of Neillsville, Rt. 4, died early Tuesday morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he had been a patient since November 7, when he received injuries in an automobile accident at the intersection of Highways 13 and 73 near Pittsville in Wood County. 
 

Ruben Francis Hantke, son of the late Otto and Mamie (Lezotte) Hantke, was born June 21, 1899, in the Town of Grant.  He grew to manhood there and attended the old McCarl School.  He spent his entire life in the Town of Grant, where he was engaged in farming.  He served as town constable for several years. 
 

On August 1, 1927, he was married to Miss Genevieve Swann of Neillsville, at Winona, Minn. 
 

He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Pauline, at home; one brother, Tony Hantke of Neillsville; one sister, Mrs. Walter (Lillian) Klapper, Green Bay; one stepsister, Miss Elsie Wolf, and his aged step-mother, Mrs. Otto Hantke of Neillsville, Rt. 4. 
 

A brother, Leo, preceded him in death in 1952. 
 

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Bergeman Funeral Home.  The Rev. Albert Guthmiller of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church officiated.  Interment took place in the Town of Grant Cemetery. 
 

Pallbearers were: Douglas Hantke, Ervin Klapper, Lavern Klapper, Orvald Klapper, Robert Klapper, and William Novatny, Jr.  Mrs. B. H. Crissinger, as vocalist, was accompanied by Mrs. Robert Peters. 
 

Out of town relatives attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Klapper, Green Bay; Oscar Hantke, Ironwood, Mich.; Miss Marion Hantke, Minneapolis; Douglas Hantke, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Archie Yankee, Neenah; Mr. and Mrs. William Novatny, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Klapper, Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Klapper, all of Green Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Klapper, Mr. and Mrs. Orvald Klapper, all of Menasha; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Buss, Appleton; Mr. and Mrs. I. O. Slocomb, Menomonie; Ross Martin, Monroe; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Paun, Mrs. Mary Paun and family, Mr. and Mrs. Max Opelt, Granton; Ernest Crossett, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kernz, Jr., Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schaddach, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schaddach, all of La Crosse.
