Epding, John Martin (23 April 1889 - 11 September 1955) 
 

John Martin Epding, Sr., 66, died suddenly September 11 at his farm home, following a lingering illness. 
 

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church. The Rev. Albert Guthmiller officiated.  Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery. 
 

The body reposed at the Georgas Funeral Home until 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday when it was taken to the church to repose until time of services at 2 p.m. 
 

Mr. Epding was born April 23, 1889, in Chicago, to John M. and Minnie (Schultzer) Epding.  He received his education in the schools of Chicago and worked for the American Railway Express Co. for 10 years.  On June 25, 1910, he was married to the former Paula Gorski at Chicago.  In 1917 Mr. and Mrs. Epding moved to Neillsville, where he was employed by the American Stores Dairy Co. as a fireman.  The Epdings purchased a small farm just east of the court house which has been their home for the past several years.  Seven years ago he retired, due to ill health, but farmed on a small scale.  
 

He is survived by his wife, three children, Arthur Epding of Wausau, John Epding, Jr., Tomah, and Mrs. Elinor Sagen of Neillsville.  Other survivors include 14 grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Arthur (Anna) Epp of Genoa City.  Two brothers preceded him in death. 
 

Mr. Epding was a member of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Neillsville Lodge No. 163, Free and Accepted Masons.

Funeral services were conducted last Wednesday from the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church for John M. Epding.  The Rev. Albert Guthmiller officiated with burial in the Neillsville City Cemetery. 
 

The Men’s Chorus of the church, accompanied by Mrs. Jacob Grether, sang two selections. 
 

Pallbearers were Elmer Filitz, Fred Stelloh, Herbert Filitz, Olaf Botnen, Fred Subke and Herman Dahnert. 
 

Folks from out of town attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Epding and family, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. John Epding, Jr., and Harold Schroeder, Tomah; Mr. and Mrs. Art Gorski, Miss Dorothy Gorski, Norbert Gorski and Arthur Gorski, Jr., all of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Epp, Genoa City; Mr. and Mrs. Magrius Sage, Hixton; Mrs. Erickson and son Ross and Mrs. Damaski, Merrillan; Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Hanson, Onalaska and Mrs. William Sagen of Arcadia.
