Kopps, Rudolph #2 (1898? - 29 JUL 1954)

Rudolph Kopps, 56, was found dead Thursday morning in a bedroom at his farm home, 1 mile west of Curtiss on Highway 29, of a rifle wound in his head, which authorities said apparently was self-inflicted.

A brother, Harry Kopps, and his wife, whose farm is 2 miles west of here, discovered the shooting about 9 o’clock Thursday morning through a bedroom window after they were unable to enter the house.

Clark County officials, including Coroner John Bergemann, Sheriff Frank Dobes and Traffic Officer William Nelson, investigated the shooting, after which Bergemann said there would be no inquest.

Authorities learned that Kopps had been despondent and unable to attend to farm work the past several weeks.  During that time Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kopps made daily visits to help with the chores.  Wednesday afternoon Kopps had asked his brother and sister-in-law to return Thursday to help make hay and haul grain to Owen.

Kopps was born on the farm now operated by his brother Harry and lived in this area all of his life.  He was not married.  Besides Harry he is survived by a brother, Franklin, Washington State, and a sister, Mrs. Walter (Irma) Newman.
