Loraine W. Cook, 87, Spencer, died peacefully on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, Spencer, and again on Friday, Oct. 16, at United Methodist Church, Spencer, from 10 a.m. to service time at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in the West Spencer Cemetery.

 

Loraine W. Cook was born on Dec. 10, 1921, in Clark County, to Lyle and Elsie (nee Brake) Cook. He graduated from Loyal High School. On April 20, 1943, in the town of Loyal, he married Kathleen Goehring. Among various jobs, he worked as a dispatcher and later a supervisor with the Pathfinder Company, Spencer. He later went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a postmaster. He also served his community by holding various offices for more than 16 years, including village treasurer, village clerk, and village president. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling. He will always be remembered for the beautiful woodworking gifts that he made for his family and friends.

 

He is lovingly survived by his six children, Sandra (Gary) Thyes, Bonduel, Keith (Marj) Cook, Prescott Valley, Ariz., Bruce (Karen) Cook, Elkhorn, Mark  (Laurie) Cook. Neillsville, Vance Cook, Colby, and Brad (Pam) Cook, Alpharietta, Ga.; a sister, Janice (Harry) Owen, Eau Claire; and two sisters-in-law, Joyce Cook, Spencer, and Bertha Cook, Sheboygan; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He will truly be missed.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents, Lyle and Elsie; his wife, Kathleen; three brothers, Francis Cook, Charles Cook, and Emery Cook; and a grandson, Nick Thyes.
