Colby, Stella Grace  (20 MAR 1894-15 AUG 1946)

 

Mrs. Raymond B. Colby, 52, died at her home here at 10 a.m. Thursday Aug. 15, of a paralytic stroke. She had been an invalid since December 1943, when she first suffered a stroke.

 

Stella Grace Colby was born in the town of York on Mar. 20, 1894. When but a young girl, she came to the village of Loyal to live and this was her home for the remainder of her life.

 

She received her education in the public schools here and at the Ladysmith Teachers Training college. She taught school in the Dodgeville district for a short time before her marriage.

 

She was married to R. B. Colby in the home he built for her, On July 15, 1915. Mrs. Colby was devoted to her home and family, and one of the great joys of her life was the safe return of her boys from overseas service.

 

She was a member of the Methodist church and of the Order of Eastern Star. She worked in the various departments of the local church but was chiefly interested in the work with younger children and served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent of the cradle roll.

 

She is survived by her husband and five children: Jack of Nettleton, Miss.: Sgt. Keith of the U. S. marines, now located at Milwaukee: Mrs. Eddie (Mary) Essex of Oshkosh, and Eugene and Gail, at home, and by four grandchildren.

 

Two sisters preceded her in death—Gertrude in early childhood and Mrs. Mida Miller several years ago.

 

Funeral services were conducted at the home at 1:30 p.m. and at the Methodist church at 2 o’clock Sunday, with the Rev. Lee Holmes officiating.

 

Serving as pallbearers were Ray Prior, V. O. Kauffman, Jesse Raab, Myrle Hales, Perry Volk and O. W. Trindal. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. C. C. Taylor, Mrs. V. O. Kauffman, Mrs. Jesse Raab, Mrs. O. W. Trindal, Mrs. Myrle Hales and Mrs. Perry Volk.

 

The hymns, "Jesus Is Always There" and "Good Night and Good Morning," were sung by Mrs. Calvin Prior, Mrs. Ray Prior, J. R. Colby and Arnold Wicklund, with Mrs. Wicklund as accompanist.

 

Relatives from away who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Colby of Nettleton, Miss., Sgt. and Mrs. Keith Colby of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Essex and children of Oshkosh, Mr. and Mrs. B, W. Colby of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rush of Neillsville.
