Wiersig, Ewald R. (2 June 1879 - 22 June 1956) 
 

Rites were conducted at Christ Lutheran church by the Rev. F. H. Sprengler Sunday afternoon for Ewald R. Wiersig, 77, who died at St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield. Burial was made in the Colby cemetery. 
 

Mr. Wiersig was born in Sherman Center, Sheboygan county, June 2, 1879. Later he moved with his parents to Mower county, Minn., where he received his education in a Lutheran parochial school. In 1901, the family moved to Alva, Okla., and four years later Mr. Wiersig came to Colby, settling on a farm in the town of Hull. 
 

He married Emma Hass at McMillan, April 20, 1912. She died Aug. 17, 1932. He was preceded in death by one daughter, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Wiersig, a sister, Emma, and two brothers, Paul and Otto. 
 

Survivors include two sons, Harold and Reinhardt; three daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Ella) Wellman, Mrs. Leonhard (Hilda) Dommer, and Mrs. Richard (Olga) Behrens; and 17 grand children, all of Colby. Also surviving are four brothers, Ed, Elkhart Lake; Julius, Phoenix, Ariz.; Walter and Rudolph, Colby, and one sister, Mrs. Henry (Anna) Runzheimer, Colby. 
 

Pallbearers at the funeral were Winfred, Donald, Herbert, and Norman Wiersig, Rueben Hass and Walter Runzheimer, all nephews. Four grand daughters, Patricia and Carol Wiersig and Gloria and Sharon Wellman, were the flower girls. 
 

During the church service, the Misses Dorothy, Marilyn, Muriel and Marjorie Kieser sang "The Lord is My Shepherd" and "Heaven is My Home." Miss Dorothy Kieser played the organ accompaniment. 
 

Many relatives and friends from here and from Colby attended the funeral.
