Hilts, Barbara L. (21 AUG 1954)

The marriage of Miss Barbara L. Hilts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry N. Hilts, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), took place at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 21, 1954 at the First Congregational Church here.

The Rev. C. E. Guthrie, Eau Claire, performed the double ring ceremony.  Yellow Gladioli, white bells and bows, and white lilies decorated the church.  The bride was given in marriage by her father.

She wore a waltz length gown with Chantilly lace bodice which buttoned down the front, pointed collar and long sleeves, and an accordion pleated nylon tulle skirt with four panels of Chantilly lace.  Her silk illusion fingertip veil fell from a cap with scalloped edges which was decorated with seed pearls.  She carried an orchid surrounded by white stephanotis.

Betty Appel, Milwaukee, was maid of honor.  Bridesmaids were Barbara Haas, Owen, and Jean Wood, Evansville.  The bridal attendants were dressed in varying shades of orchid, with the maid of honor’s gown being the darkest.  The waltz length dresses were styled with an organdy bodice, cummerbund and net skirts.  They carried yellow gladioli.

Flower girl was Mary Ann Fritz, Owen, the groom’s niece.  She wore an orchid organdy dress and carried a nosegay bouquet.  Roger Hahn, Augusta, the bride’s cousin, was ring bearer.

Melvin Smith, Owen, was best man.  Groomsmen were Earl Johnson, Owen, and William Maurina, Owen.

Carol Felton, Le Sueur, Minn., was organist for the ceremony.

A reception was held in the church parlors after the wedding.  The couple then left on a wedding trip to Northern Wisconsin.  After Aug. 30th they will live at 906 17th St., Menomonie.

The bride will be a senior at Stout Institute this fall and will be president of the Hyperion Sorority for the coming year.  The groom had attended River Falls state College.  He is transferring to Stout Institute this year.
