Gumz, Dorothy Elaine (Marriage - 25 May 1955)

Miss Dorothy Gumz, daughter of Mike Gumz, of Stetsonville, and Donald Scheibe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Scheibe, of Abbotsford, were united in marriage Wednesday, May 25, at the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church, Dorchester. The Rev. Fred Kollath performed the ceremony at 1:30 o’clock.

The wedding gown was floor length, the Chantilly lace placed over the full satin skirt and bodice, the yoke of which was nylon tulle. The bodice, which had a standup collar and long sleeves coming to points over the wrists, was buttoned in the back. The fingertip veil of illusion was held in place by a Queen of Scots cap of rosepoint lace illuminated with pearls. The bride carried a bouquet of white roses, pink carnations and lily of the valley.

Appearing in blue, strapless floor-length gowns were the maid of honor, Miss Janet Gumz, Dorchester, a cousin of the bride, and the bridesmaid, Miss Mary Scheibe, of Abbotsford, a sister of the groom. The lace and net over satin frocks had lace jackets. Each carried a bouquet of blue and white carnations.

A miniature replica of the bridal aides dress was the white frock worn by the flower girl, little Mary Wittkamp, a cousin of the groom, who held a tiny bouquet of carnations and lily of the valley.

Attending his friend as best man was Kenneth Ingersoll, Jr., of Abbotsford. The bride’s brother, Fred Gumz, Stetsonville, was groomsman and the ring bearer was Kenneth Gumz, Dorchester, a cousin of the bride. Ushering the wedding guests to their places in the church were Robert Gumz, Dorchester, and Harold Schultz, Abbotsford, cousin of the bride and uncle of the groom, respectively.

The groom’s mother attended the festivities in a white nylon dress with black and white accessories and a corsage of pink and white carnations.

A wedding reception took place at the bride’s home and the dinner was served at the Dorchester parish hall.

Special honor guests were the grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Max Schaefer, Stetsonville, who were observing their 54th wedding anniversary.

After a southern Wisconsin wedding trip, the Scheibes will be at home to friends at Dorchester. Mr. Scheibe is presently employed at Streckert Manufacturing Company and his wife formerly worked at the Abby Café, Abbotsford. He is a 1950 graduate of the Abbotsford high school and his wife a 1951 graduate of the Medford high school.
