Gierl, Bette Jane (Marriage - 8 June 1954)

Cpl. and Mrs. Albert J. Kunze are making their home at Ft. Belvoir, Va., and will be there until Oct. 20 when he will be separated from the service. Their marriage took place Tuesday, June 8, at St. Anthony’s Catholic church, Athens, with the Rev. Norman W. Thomas officiating at the double ring ceremony.

The bride, the former Miss Bette Gierl, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Gierl, Athens, Route 2, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kunze, Route 1, Abbotsford.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride approached the altar attired in a satin and lace gown featuring a Chantilly lace bodice with a crisp collar and lace panels in the full skirt that ended in a court train. Her finger tip veil was fastened to a Juliet cap made of lace, outlined in pearls. Her prayer book was topped with a cluster of white roses and stephanotis.

The bride’s attendants wore white net over taffeta frocks, designed with strapless, shirred bodices and ruffles on the floor length skirts. They wore net stoles and carried white and shrimp colored carnations, arranged on fans. Miss Mary Kunze, Abbotsford, sister of the groom, was maid of honor; Mrs. Ted Kulas, Abbotsford, cousin of the groom, and the Misses Delores and Jean Kublitz, both of Athens, were bridesmaids.

The Misses Marion and Arlene Gierl, carrying baskets of daisies, served their sister as flower girls. Their frocks were blue nylon over taffeta and featured three tiered skirts.

Elroy Weiler, Abbotsford, a friend of the bridal couple, was best man. Donald Kunze, brother of the groom, James Gierl, of Athens, and Robert Gierl, of Abbotsford, a brother and cousin of the bride, were groomsmen.

Navy blue ensembles were chosen by the mother of the bride, the mother of the groom and Mrs. Albert Gierl, of Athens, grand mother of the bride. Their corsages were an arrangement of pink carnations and white roses.

Dinner and later a buffet supper were served at the home of the bride’s parents followed by a reception for relatives and friends.

When the young couple left for Ft. Belvoir, Mrs. Kunze donned a sky blue linen suit with white angora trim to which was pinned a white rose corsage. Her accessories were white.

Guests from away attending the wedding were from Detroit, Mich.; Chicago, Ill.; Chippewa Falls, Stanley, Colby, Abbotsford, and Ft. Belvoir.
