Churkey, Mae (8 AUG 1953)

 

The Methodist Church in Greenwood provided the setting at 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening which united in marriage Miss Mae Churkey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Churkey of route 1, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), and Gilbert Wickerham of Great Lakes, Ill.

 

The Rev. Riley officiated at the double ring ceremony.

 

Escorted down the aisle on the arm of her father, the bride was gowned in white nylon net over white slipper satin, a Basque of nylon lace formed the fitted bodice with peter pan collar, which had sleeves that extended to points over her wrists.  A panel of nylon lace down the front of the skirt with short nylon net overskirt that tapered to the end of the train.

 

A coronation crown studded with small rhinestones and seed pearls secured her short veil that was edged with wide scallops of lace.  She carried a bouquet of red roses edged with lily of the valley tied with white lace and ribbons streams of red roses.

 

Preceding the bride down the aisle were Miss Fern Churkey, sister of the bride , as bridesmaid, and Miss Wilma Wickerham, sister of the groom, as maid of honor.  They were attired in green taffeta and yellow taffeta with net respectively, with matching nylon net crowns with rhinestones, carrying bouquets of pink and white carnations.

 

Gordon Sterzich of Lansing, Mich., a cousin of the groom, served as best man, and George Himes of Owen as groomsman.

 

Arnold Awe and George Himes ushered.

 

Mrs. Churkey viewed her daughter’s wedding in an orchid nylon crepe dress with white accessories.  The groom’s mother wore a medium blue suit with navy accessories.  Both had a corsage of pink and white feathered carnations.

 

A reception was held at the home of the bride.

 

Out of town guests at the wedding were from Lansing, Mich., Great Lakes, Ill., Port Edwards, Loyal, Kenosha and Greenwood.

 

The bride is a graduate from the Owen High School, class of ’52.  Now employed at the courthouse in Waukegan, Ill., the groom is in the navy, stationed at Great Lakes.
