Wendt, John #2 (24 APR 1878 - 18 MAR 1953)

 

Mr. John Fred Wendt passed away at his home in the town of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.) Wednesday, March 18, 1953 at 9 a.m. of a heart ailment.  He was born April 24, 1878 in Allegan Mich.  He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wendt, deceased.

 

He came to Thorp with his parents when he was 6 years old.  He grew to manhood there.  He spent most of his life working in lumber camps.

 

In 1909, April 28, he was united in marriage to Clara Noah, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Noah.  After their marriage they settled in the vicinity of Longwood, where he resided ever since.

 

Mr. and Mrs. John Wendt spent the past winter in Kentucky with their daughter Bertha.  They returned home Sunday night.  He took sick on the way home and never recovered.

 

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Adolph (Bertha) Gandu, Danville, Ky.; Mrs. Burnell (Leona) Erickson, Madison; Mrs. Daniel (Alice) Olson, Greenwood; and 2 sons, Adolph on the home place and Edgar, both at Owen.

 

Also one sister, Mrs. Wm. Courter, Withee.  Three brothers, Wm. Of Owen; Fred of Lagrande, Oregon, August of Denver, Colo.  Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

 

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Rev. Chas. Koch officiating.  Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were all nephews, Raymond, George, Chas., Cecil and Harold Wendt, and Bernard Colby.

 

The flowers were in charge of Geraldine, Carol, Dennis and Karen Wendt, Kathleen and Orvilla Noah, and Duane Olson.

 

"Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" was sung by Walter Needham and daughter Janet, and the choir sang "Softly and Tenderly."

 

Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Gander, Danville; Mr. and Mrs. Burnell Erickson of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Ehluts, Mr. and Mrs. George Wendt, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Nelson and son, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Schraeder of Wis. Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schier, Mrs. Otto Severin, Mr. Raymond Wendt, Milwaukee; Mrs. Wm. Hollman and son, Grafton, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kuhn, Sheboygan; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Wendt and son, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wendt, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Arvid Shell, Marshfield; Mrs. Morris Anderson, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Oscar Noah and son, Alma, Mr. and Mrs. Human Krampain, Edgar; Mr. and Mrs. emil Laabs and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Laube and family, Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Colby, Strum; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wendt, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wendt and Ed Wendt, Owen; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Buchanan, Curtiss; Mrs. Chas. Wendt, Wis. Rapids; and many other close neighbors and friends.
