Larson Family

Mrs. Lars Larson, who has lived on the same farm, one and a half miles west of Abbotsford, for 64 years, adds some items of interest to the history of Abbotsford.

Her maiden name was Mathea Amundsen. She was born in Gubransdalen, Norway, on Aug. 21, 1869, and came to America at the age of 18 years. She was accompanied by her sister, Anne, who later became Mrs. Oluf Berg. They came by steamship, which took two weeks from Oslo, Norway, to New York City. They came by train to Abbotsford, arriving here July 10, 1888 to stay with their great aunt and uncle, the Hans Olsen Bergs.

Lars Larson was born in Barlindalen, Norway, Feb. 19, 1854 and came to America in 1883. Previous to this time he had been a sailor on sailing vessels carrying cargo between ports of Europe and Central America. He had bought this piece of land one a half miles west of Abbotsford from Mrs. La Veno, about 1884, with the thought of settling there at some later date.

They were married at Amherst and settled on this piece of land in 1888. The land was almost entirely covered by timber and Lars cleared most of it by hand. The first home was a small structure but in later years an addition *** Note: The rest of the article was cut off and was not available at the time of transcription.
