Alperstett, Melvin (11 NOV 1920-10 AUG 2009)

Melvin Alperstett, 88, Spring Green, formerly of Loyal, joined his heavenly father on Monday, Aug, 10, 2009, at Greenway Manor Nursing home, Spring Green. Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood. The first of two celebration of life services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 237 E. Daley St. Spring Green, on Friday, Aug. 21, at 2 p.m.. In Greenwood, there will be a gathering at Our Savior Lutheran Church, on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 12:30 p.m. At 1 p.m., everyone will depart by caravan to Forest Hill Cemetery for a brief service and burial. Following the burial, a potluck picnic will be at the Greenwood County Park shelter for sharing of memories and friendship.

Melvin Alperstett was born on Nov. 11m 1920, on the Alperstett family farm, known as the Black River Dairy Farm, north of Greenwood. He attended Braun Settlement Grade School and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1939. He married Beulah Gordee and they raised a family on that dairy farm. He loved farming and the outdoors where he hunted deer, bear and turkeys. He was a founding member of the Black River Bowman’s Club, a member and lobbyist for Farm Bureau Federation, and a Rotarian. He enjoyed photography, woodworking and his archery business in Loyal. For many years, he was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood. He traveled extensively with his wife, loved golf, playing cards and shaking dice with friends. They retired from farming in 1979 and moved to Loyal where they lived for 26 years. In 2002 they moved to Spring Green and joined Christ Lutheran Church. He entered Greenway Manor Nursing home in July 2005. A special "Thank you" to Melvin’s caregiver family at Greenway Manor who consistently gave him outstanding care, love, and support.

SURVIVORS INCLUDE HIS WIFE OF 65 YEARS, Beulah Alperstett, also living at Greenway Manor; his four daughters, Carol Jefferson (David Williams), Iowa City, Iowa, Connie (Steve) Miller, Spring Green, Kaye (Travis) West, The Woodlands, Texas, and Corinne (Sean) Dever, The Woodlands, Texas; grandchildren, Shelly, Dana and Monica West, Steven Miller and Jack Dever; and great-grandchildren, Kiana and Braedon Miller.

Preceding him in death was a half-sister, Esther Rentel.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in his name to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood, or to the Greenway Manor Volunteer Program, 501 S. Winsted St., Spring Green, Wi. 53588.
