Bowen, Geraldine A. #2 (30 AUG 1952)

Zion Lutheran Church, Colby, was the scene of a lovely wedding ceremony performed at 11 o’clock Saturday morning, Aug. 30, 1952.  The double ring ceremony uniting Geraldine A. Bowen and Clifford F. Smith in wedlock was read by Rev. O. Hoffman.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bowen, Abbotsford, and a graduate of the Colby school system.  Mr. Smith is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith, route 2, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) and a graduate of the Owen High School.  The young couple will make their future home on the farm of the groom’s parents where he is engaged in the occupation of farming.

As she approached the altar for the sacred ceremony the bride wore a gown of eggshell slipper satin with long sleeves and high neckline with dainty buttons all the way down the back to her waist.  The front was trimmed with seeded pearls to the nylon insert.  She wore a fingertip veil with a seeded pearl tiara.  Her bridal bouquet was of red and white carnations and lilies of the valley.

Mr. Joseph Karaba, Milwaukee, sister of the groom, served as matron of honor while Mrs. Robert Heppner, Colby, a cousin of the bride, was bridesmaid.  Both wore gowns identically styled in green orchid, respectively, of nylon net over taffeta having low necklines and ruffled bertha collars.  Their hoop skirts were trimmed in ruffles.  They wore gauntlets and matching picture hats.  Each wore a rhinestone necklace given to them as gifts of the bride.  Both carried shower bouquets of gladiolas tinted in orchid and green color.

The groom and his attendants, Joseph Karaba, Milwaukee, a brother-in-law, and groomsman, Robert Heppner, Colby, wore the conventional business suits and boutonniere.

At noon a dinner was served for immediate members of the two families at Casa Grande.  At two o’clock a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents at Abbotsford, Wis.  Appropriate decorations, streamers in green and orchid colors along with a large three tier wedding cake serving as centerpiece at the bridal table added to the festive spirit of the joyous occasion.  That evening a wedding dance was held at the Colby Park.

The bride’s mother chose a black dress with matching accessories for the ceremony and wore a corsage of red and white carnations with baby breath.  The bridegroom’s mother wore a navy blue dress with matching accessories and a similar corsage.

During the ceremony Mr. Donald Schulz sang "Because" and "The Lord’s Prayer."

Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Berger, and Mr. and Mrs. Orville Fredericks and son, Appleton; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Karaba and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Karaba, Mrs. Della Netto, Ray Smith and Mrs. Jim Keskimaki, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smith, Rosendale, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Guegmann Gilbertson and son, Fond du Lac; Jim Keskimaki, Minneapolis; and others from Colby, Abbotsford, Withee, Curtiss and Owen.
