Schafer, Alice (29 JUN 1952)

 

After the 12th of July Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Smith will make their home at 901 Hastings Way, Eau Claire.  The couple were wed in a lovely church ceremony performed at 2 p.m., June 29th, 1952 in the Viroqua Lutheran Church at Viroqua.  The couple repeated the nuptial vows in a double ring ceremony after Rev. Alf Romstad.

 

The bride is the former Alice Schafer, daughter of Albert Schafer of Winneconne, and formerly of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.).  She wore a street length gown of white silk shantung having a sweetheart neckline and cap sleeves, a white flowered hat and matching accessories.  Her bridal bouquet was a white orchid placed on a white Bible with sweet peas and forget-me-nots.  She was given in marriage by her uncle, Lewis Schafer of St. Paul.

 

A close friends, Mrs. Arthur James, Eau Claire, served as maid of honor.  She wore a street length dress of sky blue shantung designed similar to that of the bride’s and carried a colonial bouquet of pink roses.

 

Attending the bridegroom as best man was Mr. Arthur James.  Ushers were Orville Kurtz and Bernard DeLap, both of Viroqua.

 

During the ceremony Benetta Anderson sang, "Oh Perfect Love: and "The Lord’s Prayer," accompanied by Harold Gulbrandsen at the organ.

 

Following the wedding a reception was given the couple at the home of the groom’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bush at Viroqua.

 

When the couple left on their weeding trip through northern Minnesota the bride was wearing a brown and white dress with white accessories and an orchid corsage.

 

Mrs. Smith is a graduate of the Owen High School and has been employed in the office of the Northern States Power Co. at Eau Claire for the past several years.

 

Mr. Smith received his education in the public schools at Viroqua and is also an employee of the Northern States Power Co., out of their Eau Claire office.

 

Out of town guests at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Simonsin, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vehlow, Wannie Lindow, Roberta Englesby and Charlotte McKitrickin, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Elliott, Chippewa Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Balow, Abbotsford; and Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Schafer and Mr. and Mrs. Matt Schafer of St. Paul.
