Ross, Mary Jane #2 (12 OCT 1831 - 21 AUG 1909)

Mary Jane Ross, born at St. Margaret’s, Canada, Oct. 13, 1831, died at her home on the north side (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.)  In 1857 she was married to Robert Sample.  To them three children were born, who are now Mrs. John Morton, Langenberg, Sas., Canada, Mrs. F. A. Bates of Tony, Wis., and John Sample of Brule, Wis.  Their father died when they were small children and she married John Ross 43 years ago.  Four children, Margaret, David, William and Henry, were born to them.  They were all here for the funeral except Mrs. Morton.  William lives at Withee, Wis., Mrs. E. J. Scott at Shawano, Wis., and Henry and Dave at home.

They came to Neillsville about forty years ago and have lived here ever since.

Mrs. Ross has been an invalid for several years.  When she was able, she was always kind and helpful and a great many people who have lived near her, will hold her in loving memory for help in time of sickness and trouble.

She was laid to rest in the family lot in the cemetery, the pastor of the Presbyterian church conducting the service.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church in Canada.  She has two brothers and a sister, Samuel and David Johnston, and Mrs. Anna Hazelett living in the town of Pine Valley, and a brother, David Johnston of Humbird, Wis.
