Schneider, Euphrosina (1857 - 20 Apr. 1950)

Death came Thursday to one of the community’s oldest members. Grandma Schneider, as she was known to several generations, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Bremer, Sr., at Abbotsford, at the age of 93 years. She had been ill for two weeks. Death was due to complication of age.

Euphrosina Schneider was born in Radan, Poland, in 1857, and was united in marriage to Michael Schneider in 1874.

The marriage lasted 71 years, making it the second longest in the state.

In 1892, they immigrated to America and lived at Gillett for several years. In 1902 they came to Dorchester and lived for several years on the farm on Highway 13, now owned by Victor Fierke.

Mr. Schneider, who died in 1946 at the age of 95, often told how he used to help pull oxen teams out of the swamp road near there and marveled that he had been privileged to live to see concrete highways take the place of corduroy roads and cars and planes the place of oxen.

In 1913, they moved to a small house on the south edge of Dorchester, now owned by the Genrichs. In 1941, they came to live with their daughter, Mrs. John Bremer, Sr. They were members of St. Peter’s Lutheran church, Dorchester, Wis.

Grandma Schneider outlived all the 11 members of her family, of which she was the oldest child. She was noted for her keen memory.

Two children survive her, William Schneider, Medford; Mrs. John Bremer, Sr., Abbotsford; and ten grandchildren, Arthur Bremer, Milwaukee; Mrs. Albert Fenske, Abbotsford; Mrs. Emil Neuman, Oconomowoc; Miss Elsie Bremer, Milwaukee; John Bremer, Jr., Abbotsford; Mrs. Norman Wallace, and Mrs. Ronald Mack, Chicago; Alvin Schneider, Detroit; Martin and Robert Schneider, Oregon; 12 great grand children and nine great-great grand children.

Services were held Sunday at St. Peter’s Lutheran church at Dorchester with the Rev. F. H. Sprengler conducting the services and burial was made in Memorial cemetery, Dorchester, Wis.

To carry out her wish, her pallbearers were her grand sons and great grandsons, Arthur Bremer, John Bremer, Jr., Alvin Schneider, Clarence and Norman Fenske, and Emil Neuman, as proxy for his son, Norbert.

Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bremer and daughter, Charlotte, and Miss Elsie Bremer, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Neuman, Oconomowoc; Alvin Schneider, Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. William Schneider, Medford; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fenske, Black River Falls; Miss Elaine Fenske, Wausau; Mrs. Pauline Neuman, Herman Fenske, Mrs. Amanda Fenske, Harold Schneider, Paul Eggert, and Arnold Eggert of Gillett; Mrs. Mathilda Harder, Mrs. Anna Amacher and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Harder, Stetsonville.
