Fleischman, Joseph B. (19 Feb. 1869 - 19 Dec. 1948)

Funeral services for Joseph B. Fleischman, whose death occurred Sunday, Dec. 19, at Milwaukee, were held Thursday afternoon. The body lay in state at the Zink Funeral Home until 2:00 o’clock, when the rites were held at the Presbyterian church, with the Rev. Fred J. Smith, of the Methodist church, of Colby, officiating. Internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery, next to the body of his wife, who preceded him in death, June 25, 1946.

The pallbearers were Don Kauffman, Clarence Kramer, Clarence Dolan, Harry Olson, Walter Jackson and R. H. Treat.

Joseph B. Fleischman was born in Batavia, Germany, Feb. 19, 1869. He came to America with his parents in 1873 and settled in Juneau county.

In 1885 he was married to Miss Gertrude Irene Inglish, of Tomah. They lived in Lisbon and after a year moved to Merrill. Two children were born to them there, Joseph, who now resides in Abbotsford, and a daughter, who died there shortly after birth. They also lived in Hineman, Hazelhurst, and Superior, for short periods of time.

Mr. Fleischman, who was a meat cutter, bought a market at Owen, where the family lived for eight years. Here Mrs. Fleischman died on Oct. 11, 1919. That same year they came to Abbotsford, where Mr. Fleischman operated a meat market for 22 years. On Sept. 28, 1921, he was married to Mae Kelnhofer, at Colby, Wis. She died in 1946.

The past three years Mr. Fleischman has been in Milwaukee where he was employed as a meat cutter with the National Food company. He was at work Saturday, apparently well, and died in his sleep, Saturday night.

He is survived by his son, Joseph, of Abbotsford; a brother, John, of Belle Pleine, Minn.; and an older sister, of Escanaba, Mich. There is one grand daughter, Mrs. Donald Kilty, of Unity; and three great grand children.
