Opelt, Evelyn (Marriage - 12 January 1952)

Miss Evelyn Opelt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Opelt, became the bride of Donald Schutte, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Schutte, of Neillsville on January 12. The ceremony was performed at 2:30 o’clock in St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Alfred Schewe officiating at the single ring service.

The bride was gowned in the traditional white satin and carried a colonial bouquet of red roses and white pom-poms. Miss Betty Reindel, her maid of honor, wore an aqua gown and carried a bouquet of pink roses. Misses Marie Opelt and Cheryl Opelt, who acted as flower girls, were dressed in gowns similar to that of the bride.

Jack Eddy, a friend of the groom, served as best man and Donald Opelt and Marvin Schutte ushered. Wilfred Galstad, the soloist was accompanied by Victor Lehman at the organ.

Following the ceremony a reception for 125 guests was held at the Legion Memorial Hall. The hall was decorated in aqua and white streamers. Candles were used as table decorations and the bride’s table was centered with a large wedding cake. Following a honeymoon to Waupaca the young couple will be at home in Neillsville.

The bride, who was graduated from the Neillsville High School, is now employed as a telephone operator. The groom is also a graduate of the local high school and is employed at farming.

Guests present for the wedding included the bride’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Mack of Waupaca, the groom’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Durst of Fairchild, Mr. and Mrs. William Christenson and daughter, Lillian, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Christenson and sons, and Roy Christenson, all of Baraboo, Roy and Neil Durst, Elle Jean Durst, Mr. and Mrs. Rolla Seig and family of Fairchild, Edwin Scholze of Humbird, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Marg of Black River Falls, and Ivan Durst of Granton.

Another news note: By Mrs. Fred Palmer - Miss Evelyn Opelt and Donald Schutte were united in marriage at the Lutheran Church Saturday, January 12. A reception was held in the church parlors. The evening was spent in dancing at the American Legion Hall. The young couple will be home next Sunday on the Henry Schutte farm, after they spend this week honeymooning in Waupaca.
