Damon, Leona R. (20 February 1922 - 23 May 2009)

 

Leona R. Damon, 87, of Neillsville, formerly of Wausau died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Neillsville Memorial Home.

 

Leona was born Feb. 20, 1922, in Neillsville, the daughter of Richard and Ida (Luck) Wedekind. She graduated from Neillsville High School in 1939. She worked for dentist Dr. Ell Lee in Neillsville. They were married Dec. 31, 1959. He died Oct. 5, 1960. Leona moved to Wausau and purchased a home on the Wisconsin River. She married John Damon; they were later divorced. Leona worked at Prange’s in Wausau in bridal registry. She was an Avon lady and was employed for 20 years until retirement at Taffy’s Hallmark. She enjoyed traveling - Hawaii, Mexico, Florida, New York City and finally Alaska in her later years. Leona was a social butterfly who loved to entertain. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

 

She is survived by two sisters, Anita Miller and Arlene Kernz, both of Neillsville; and nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond and Harry Wedekind, and sisters, Ruby Waulters and Lillian Ewert.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville, with Rev. James Mohr officiating. Visitation was Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will also be held Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

Buchanan Funeral Home of Neillsville assisted the family with arrangements.
