OSCAR EDWARD SCHIER went to be with his Lord the evening of May 27, 2009. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 75 years, LaVonn Schier; his son, John Schier and his wife Shirley; his grandson, Mark Schier and his wife Robin and great-grandsons Ethan and Ryan Schier.

 

Born November 18, 1913 in Sealy, Texas, Oscar grew up in Sealy, went to the Sealy public schools and attended The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, graduating from Texas A & M with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Administration degree and a Reserved Officers Commission of 2nd Lieutenant in June of 1935. World War II began on or about December 7, 1941 and Oscar entered the service to his country as a 1st Lieutenant on March 6, 1942. He became the commander of Battery D in the 202nd Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion and served in combat in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations.

 

After returning to civilian life in 1946, Oscar and his wife owned several businesses in Sealy until 1958, he began a career as a chemist with Cameron Iron Works on Silber Road in Houston, Texas. He worked for this company, becoming Assistant Chief Chemist until he retired in 1982. In 1963, Oscar and his wife LaVonn established a chain of beauty salons in the Memorial and Champions areas of Houston named LaVonn's Salons of Beauty. After selling the salons, both Oscar and LaVonn retired to their home in Afton Village in Houston where they lived together, In Love, until moving into the home of their son and his wife in 2005. Oscar left this world for his Heavenly Home at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 under the Loving Hands of his grandson Mark and Mark's wife Robin. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Chris Schier, his mother and his father, three sisters and two brothers. Visitation will be at the Knesek Family Funeral Chapel at 768 Fourth Street in Sealy, Texas from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2009. Funeral services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, 402 Atchison, Sealy, Texas 77474 at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2009.
