Luhrsen, Amanda (21 Nov. 1880 - 15 June 1947)

Funeral services for Mrs. August Luhrsen, Sr., who died at her home early Sunday morning, following a long illness, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Presbyterian church. The Rev. G. E. Griffiths conducted the services during which Mrs. Walter Baehr sang "O Love That Will Not Let Me Go," and "The Old Rugged Cross," accompanied at the piano by Herbert Juneau.

Internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery. The pallbearers were Fred Bobbe, W. O. Colby, Vane Gokey, H. D. Kennedy, Harry Olson and Alfred Scheel.

The many beautiful floral offerings were in charge of Mmes. Martin Anderson, Fred Bobbe, M. C. Bunnell, Walter Fults, L. F. Gibson, J. A. Hutt, Maxwell Jenks, Wilbur Kuehnast, Lawrence Neitzel, Roy Peterson and Miss Barbara Peterson.

Mrs. Luhrsen was born Amanda Henke, Nov. 21, 1880, in Portage county, Wis. On Nov. 12, 1902, she was united in marriage to August H. Luhrsen. The young couple lived in Marshfield and came to Abbotsford in 1906. For a few years they lived at New Richmond, Eau Claire, and Wisconsin Rapids, and returned to Abbotsford in 1916 and have lived here since that time.

Mrs. Luhrsen was an active member of the Presbyterian church, having served as treasurer for many years. She was also active in the various church organizations and was a teacher in the Sunday school. When ill health forced her to be inactive the Ladies’ Home Mission and the Sunday School Mission made her an honorary member.

During the war years, Mrs. Luhrsen gave freely of her time for USO and Red Cross drives.

She is survived by her husband, August Luhrsen, Sr., and the following children: August H. Luhrsen, Jr., Waukesha; Delos C. Luhrsen, Stevens Point; Mrs. Arnold (Loella) Baehr, Abbotsford; Mrs. John (Wanda) Miller, Eau Claire; Mrs. Glyde B. Nielsen, Minneapolis; Clarence (Louie) Luhrsen, Mondovi; and Cully Luhrsen, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

There are three grand children and two great grand children.

Mrs. Luhrsen, who was the last survivor of her family, was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. In 1923, one son, Hollis, died at the age of 16.
