Crosby, Emery W. (29 Dec. 1874 - 23 May 1947)

Neillsville - Emery W. Crosby, judge of the 17th Wisconsin judicial circuit for the past 26 years, died at his home Friday, after a lingering illness.

Judge Crosby had been in poor health for several years and had tendered his resignation to Governor Goodland shortly before the latter’s death, but later rescinded it.

Born on a farm at Sheboygan Falls on Dec. 29, 1874, Judge Crosby graduated from the Glenbeulah high school and then taught rural school for five years before entering the Oshkosh Normal school.

He then took the law course at Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., and after graduation established a practice at Abbotsford, where he arrived in 1903. He was elected as a member of the Clark County Board and in 1906 was elected district attorney of Clark county.

After an unsuccessful race for the circuit judgeship in 1916, he was elected to the bench in 1921 and continued as judge of the 17th judicial circuit, including Clark, Jackson and Juneau counties, until his death.

He was married in June, 1901, to Rosa M. Beck, of Sheboygan county, and she, with a son, Frederic, of La Crosse, survives him.

Judge Crosby was a member of the Blue Lodge, Chapter, and Commandery of the Masons, as well as of the Odd Fellow, Woodmen, and Moose lodges.

Funeral services were held at the Masonic Temple, Neillsville, Monday afternoon. Internment was made at Oak Grove cemetery, at La Crosse.
