SHEBOYGAN -- Elaine R. Bruesewitz, 49, of Sheboygan, a loving wife and mother, passed away surrounded by her family and friends on Wednesday morning, April 29, 2009, at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, following a lengthy illness.

Elaine, the daughter of James and Dolores (Friedenfels) Mercier, was born on April 29, 1960, in Kenosha. Her family lived in Rockford, Ill., prior to moving to Colby where she graduated from Colby High School in 1978. Elaine was employed at the Marshfield Clinic prior to attending the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie and graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting. She then attended and graduated from UW-Whitewater with a master's degree in tax accounting. She later attained her CPA designation.

She was united in marriage on Dec. 29, 1990, to Daniel Bruesewitz at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby, Wis. Elaine was employed with Schenk Business Solutions prior to becoming the tax director at Sargento Foods.

Elaine was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed a variety of sports which included softball, skiing, basketball and the 3-on-3 Gus Macker Tournament, especially when her sons were playing. Other favorite activities included her family vacations, photography and horses. Elaine was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and was involved in various parish activities.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Dan; her two sons, Eric and Ryan, at home; her mother, Dolores Mercier of Colby; three brothers, Richard (Holly) Mercier of Waunakee, David (Dawn) Mercier of Colby, and Alan (Lora) Mercier of Spencer; a sister, Lisa (Kevin) Meifert of Sheboygan; and her mother-in-law, Shirley Bruesewitz of Unity, Wis.

Brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her father, James Mercier; and father-in-law, Arlyn Bruesewitz.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at St. Dominic Catholic Church with the Rev. John Radetski as celebrant. Family and friends may visit at the church located at the intersection of North 21st and Geele Avenue in Sheboygan on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at 1:30 p.m.

In preference to flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Elaine's name. Elaine's family would like to extend a very appreciative thank you to both Sargento Foods and Wagner Excavating along with their employees for the support, concern and compassion during her illness. They would also like to thank the doctors and staff of both Northwestern Hospital in Chicago and St. Nicholas Hospital for the care she received. There are too many relatives and friends to name that gave support, friendship, meals and donations. Your kindness was generous and appreciated. She will be dearly missed by many.

The Novak-Ramm-Ziegler Funeral Home, Sheboygan, is serving the family.
