O’Neill, James, Mrs. (1832? - 15 MAY 1908)

Last Friday afternoon, Mrs. James O’Neill died in Chicago at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Lester. She was buried Sunday at Pleasant Prairie, Wis. Mrs. O’Neill was 75 years of age and was born in Lewiston, N.Y. She was married to a Mr. Teller, and two daughters were born to them, Mrs. John Lester and Mrs. Geo. Ludington, deceased. In 1874 she was married to James O’Neill, the founder of Neillsville, who died 26 years ago. To this union one son was born, James O’Neill. Hon. James O’Neill of this city (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.) is a nephew, and Mrs. L. Weeks is a sister of Mrs. O’Neill.

About four years ago Mrs. O’Neill took up her residence with her daughter in Chicago. She was a most gracious and intelligent old lady, generous and charitable, and her greatest delight was in rendering assistance to the poor and needy. On the day of her death she had just returned from a visit to an orphan asylum with gifts of fruit, and her unexpected death was a severe shock to her friends and relatives. She will long be remembered by her old friends here, who join in mourning her demise.
