Doonan, Catherine #3 (12 JAN 1900 - 20 NOV 1951)

Funeral services were held Friday morning at 9 o’clock from the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen, for Mrs. W. K. Doonan, 51. Father Raymond Bornbach officiated at the final rites. Burial was made in the family lot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery at Wausau.

Serving as pallbearers were W. J. Mahoney, P. J. Madsen, W. A. Ritz and J. R. Barager, Owen; Dr. E. C. Nelson, St. Paul, Minn., and Frank Raw, Neenah, Wis.

Mrs. Doonan passed away suddenly but peacefully into eternity, Tuesday, Nov. 20th, 1951, at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she had been a patient for one week, succumbing to a heart ailment.

Always active and cooperative in community affairs she had been limited in her activities ever since a year ago last May when she first became ill. In addition to her participation in civic doings and those of her home she was especially active in church activities, having served the congregation as organist for many years.

She had no fear of passing onto eternity, even though she never mentioned it, but kept planning continually for a recovery from her illness. Her faith in the hereafter was long established. She devoted many leisure moments during her illness to the comforts of her Bible.

Catherine Doonan, nee Catherine Ekern, was born on Jan. 12, 1900 at Kennebec, S.D.. She was a graduate of Thief River, Minn. High School and of the Moorhead State Teachers College. On June 7, 1922, she was united in marriage to W. K. Doonan at Luverne, Minn. For several years they lived at Marathon City where Mr. Doonan was principal of schools, later moving to Boyd and then to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1932 where she has since made her home.

Mourning her departure are her husband and one son, Terry, Redwood Falls, Minn.; her father, Edwin Ekern, Baudette, Minn., three brothers, Elvin Ekern, Clarence Ekern and Marlowe Ekern, all of Baudette, Minn., and three sisters, Mrs. Jack Curran, Palo Alto, Calif., Mrs. Earl Wycoff, Redmond, Oregon, and Mrs. Harold DeHaven, St. Paul, Minn.
