Fleischman, Mary Loretta (1 Dec. 1880 - 25 June 1946)

Funeral services for Mrs. J. B. Fleischman, 65, who died at her home Tuesday, will be held Saturday morning at 9:00 o’clock at St. Bernard’s Catholic church. Internment will follow in the Abbotsford cemetery.

A rosary service will be conducted Friday evening at 8:00 o’clock at the Zink Funeral Home, where the body is lying in state.

Mary Loretta Kelnhofer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kelnhofer, was born in Hastings, Minn., Dec. 1, 1880. When just a small child her parents moved to Chippewa Falls and then to Milwaukee and came to Abbotsford in 1903 where Mr. Kelnhofer was a shoe merchant.

The Kelnhofer family was among the small group of families who helped form St. Bernard’s parish and build the church.

Mary Kelnhofer took nurse’s training at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Chicago. Her untiring nursing during the influenza epidemic at the time of the first World War will be remembered by many.

On Sept. 23, 1920 she was united in marriage to John B. Fleischman in St. Mary’s rectory at Colby, Wis.

While her health permitted, Mrs. Fleischman was a member of the Catholic Ladies’ Altar Society. She had been in poor health for some time and for the past seven months had been growing steadily worse, suffering from hardening of the arteries and high blood pressure. Death came at 12:15, Tuesday noon.

She leaves her husband, two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Ellerman, Abbotsford; Mrs. Claude (Violet) Vander Boom, and brother, Frank Kelnhofer, both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

There are eight nieces and nephews, Miss Loretta Ellerman, Abbotsford; Vernon Ellerman, Miss Patricia Vander Boom, the Misses Rose and Carol Kelnhofer, and Mrs. Arthur Broenen, all of Milwaukee; Sister Mary Giles, Wheaton, Ill., and Dr. Francis Kelnhofer, Wauwatosa.

Preceding her in death were her father on March 13, 1906; her sister, Lulu, May 8, 1920; and her mother, Feb. 11, 1923.
