Gordon, Adlia H. (13 DEC 1891 - 3 APR 1945)

Adlia Henry Gordon, 53, died early Tuesday evening, Apr. 3, at his home here in the village. His death was the result of an asthmatic condition which became acute during the past week.

Adlia, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gordon, was born on a farm west of Loyal on Dec. 13, 1891. He, being a carpenter by trade, spent most of his life in Loyal and vicinity. On June 1, 1921, at Waukegan, Ill., he was married to Bessie Clark of Montgomery City, Mo. After their marriage, they came to Loyal and for 13 years resided on a farm 2 ½ miles west of the village. While living here, one daughter, Elizabeth, was born to them. Four years ago, they moved into the village where they resided until the time of his decease.

Mr. Gordon was a veteran of the first World war, enlisting on Mar. 1, 1918. He was a private in the 13th Discharge Co. and was honorably discharged on Dec. 30, 1918.

Funeral services were held at the Nichols funeral home Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The Rev. K. G. Rumppe officiated. The hymns were sung by Miss Ila Mae Smith and Rev. Rumppe, with Mrs. Floyd Smith as accompanist.

The American Legion was in charge of the funeral services. Those acting as pallbearers were: George Bentzler, Roy Radka, Julius Minsaas, Melro Minsaas, Henry Vogel and William Beaver. Pfc. Picus and T/Sgt. Frank Stange were the color guard, and Henry Ryan and Jerome were color bearers.

The firing squad, composed of Jesse Raab, V. O. Kauffman, Edd Dobbe, Claude Catlin, William Murphy and Perry Volk, gave the farewell salute, after which Charles Esselman sounded taps. Burial was in the Loyal cemetery.

He leaves to mourn his loss, besides his wife and daughter, one sister, Mrs. Clydia Radka, of Greenwood, and one brother, Orville, of Willard, and other relatives. His father and mother and one brother preceded him in death.
