Henke, Evelyn “Evie” Marie (Miller) (5 JAN 1925 - 16 NOV 2013)

Evelyn “Evie” Marie Henke, age 88 of Owen, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.

Funeral services will be held at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Bonnie Cain presiding. Visitation will be held at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral home in Owen on Wednesday, November 18 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of services at the church.

Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in the Town of Hixon. Pallbearers will be her Granddaughters: Mindy (Henke) Heiden, Kelly (Henke) Radunzel, Karen (Henke) Diedrich, Leanne (Henke) Strobach, Jill Henke, Wendi Henke, Renea Henke, Susan Henke and Niece Elaine Paul.

Evelyn was born on January 5, 1925 in Stanley, WI to Joe and Irene (Musselman) Miller. She received her education in Stanley. Evelyn was married to Lawrence Henke on October 18, 1944 at Thorp, WI. To this marriage were born three sons. She worked for Rays Variety, Gribbernow Hardware and for many years as a receptionist/clerk for the Wisconsin Gas Company all in Owen.

After her retirement, Evelyn liked to stay busy and remained active in the community. She was a member of the O-W Vets Club and a Life member of the VFW Auxiliary. Evelyn worked part time at the Senior Center in Owen , the O-W Foodliner Bakery and helped at the food pantry. As long as she was able she was a regular member of the Creekside Coffee Creamers. Evelyn loved to be with this group of her friends every morning for coffee and chit chat.

Evelyn loved to cook and bake. She was well known for her vast assortment of Christmas and Easter cookies, cakes and candy. Many people remember her homemade ice cream sandwiches she always gave to the neighborhood children. The greatest joy in her life was her family, especially her Grandchildren. Evelyn loved to spend time with them. She enjoyed spending time with her family at her place at Birchwood then later on Lake Holcombe. There were many happy weekends there with friends and family.

Evelyn is survived by her three sons, Jim Henke, Altoona, Denny (Nancy) Henke, Withee, and Dave (Vickie) Henke, Burrton, KS. One sister Pearl Hansen of Chippewa Falls; Nine Grandchildren, Kevin Henke, Leanne Henke Strobach, Monty Henke, Mindy (Henke) Heiden, Kelly (Henke) Radunzel, Karen (Henke) Diedrich, Jill Henke, Corey Henke; Thirteen Great-Grandchildren; Five Great-Great-Grandchildren and five sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; her parents, three sisters and three brothers and Daughter-in-Law, Nancy (Rienke) Henke.
