Nagel, William (29 Oct. 1868 - 23 Feb. 1945)

A requiem high mass for William Nagel, aged 76, who died at his home at 1:45 a.m. Saturday, from an organic heart ailment, was sung Tuesday morning at 10:00 o’clock in St. Bernard’s Catholic church with the Rev. Francis Brockman officiating. The body was then taken back to the Zink Funeral home, awaiting the arrival of Pfc. Bob Tesmer from Blythe, Calif. The burial service and internment in the Abbotsford cemetery were held on Wednesday morning at 10:00 o’clock.

Pallbearers were Leo Banditt, William Bogaard, Fred Dietsche, Ed Feala, Walter Jackson and Louis Schorer.

William Nagel was born in Germany Oct. 29, 1868. At the age of 13 he came to America with his parents and brother and sister, and settled near Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

As a young man he worked for Theodore Emling in Dodge county and in 1899 both of them came to Loyal where they each cleared a farm.

On June 25, 1901, Mr. Nagel and Mary Alber, who had also worked for Mr. Emling in Dodge county, were united in marriage at Loyal. They lived on a farm there until 1920 when they retired and came to Abbotsford to live.

While here Mr. Nagel served the village for a number of years as marshal. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic church and of the Holy Name Society.

Mr. Nagel had been in poor health the past two or three years, but was only seriously ill for four days when death came.

Surviving him are his widow and two daughters, Mrs. Norman Brecke and Mrs. Leo Bumann, of Abbotsford, Wis.

One son, Raymond, died in infancy while the family lived at Loyal and a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Margaret) Tesmer died 14 years ago. His parents and only brother and sister also preceded him in death.

There are six grand children: Pfc. Robert Tesmer, of Blythe, Calif.; Miss Betty Tesmer, Kansas City, Mo.; Raymond Tesmer, Colby; Joanne and John Brecke and Mary Bumann, Abbotsford, Wis.

Among the relatives and friends from away who attended the funeral were:

Fred Alber, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schadweiler, Menomonie; Mrs. Ephraim Parrish, Durand; Mr. and Mrs. William Fohrman, Aaugust Peiper and Arnold Peiper, Loyal; Mrs. Frank Young, Marshfield; Miss Agatha Bumann, Marathon; Mrs. Jake Bumann and son, Stetsonville.
