Kliefoth, Dale A. (24 July 1924 - 29 July 1944)

A second message from the War Department was received by Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Kliefoth, Tuesday, stating that their son, Pvt. Dale A. Kliefoth, previously reported missing in action on July 29, was killed in action on that day, in France.

A memorial service will be held at St. Bernard’s Catholic church in the near future.

Pvt. Dale A. Kliefoth was born July 24, 1924, in the town of Hull. He attended the Pickard school through the eighth grade and then the Abbotsford high school. During his sophomore year his parents moved to Abbotsford, Wis. Dale graduated with the class of 1942 and helped his father at the service station until fall when he enrolled in an NYA airplane mechanics course at Wausau which he completed March 12, 1942.

His plans to enlist in the air corps didn’t materialize as his induction papers had arrived and he left March 17 for Ft. Sheridan, Ill., from where he was sent to Camp Butler, N. Car. and was a truck driver in the infantry.

A furlough was granted him in July which enabled him to celebrate his birthday anniversary at home. A two-day furlough over Christmas day and another brief one at Easter time and maneuvers in Tennessee were followed by his overseas crossing to England in May.

There were only a few letters which he wrote from England. Those which followed came from France, the last one received was written on July 24.

Dale is survived by his parents and three younger brothers, Irve, Charles and Neal, all at home.
