Volkmar, William Henry (8 Jan. 1873 - 19 Feb. 1944)

William Henry Volkmar, 71, died after a short illness at the Alfred Herrmann farm, Saturday morning at 3:00 o’clock. The body lay in state at the Central Wisconsin Cooperative Funeral Home at Marshfield until Monday evening when it was brought to the home in Abbotsford, Wis.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 at the home and at 2:00 o’clock at the Reformed Evangelical church at Colby, with the Rev. David Grether officiating. Internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Alvin Uhlig, Emil Uhlig, George Uhlig, Louis Auberson, George Becker and Eldor Schallock.

Flowers were in charge of Evelyn Herrmann, Verna Herrmann, Jeanette Thede, Alice Thede and Joyce Volkmar.

Mr. Volkmar was born in Germany Jan. 8, 1873, and came to America at the age of seven.

He was married to Elizabeth Uhlig in Colby, Wisconsin on August 30, 1900. The couple lived on a farm in the town of Colby until 1939 when he retired from farming and came to Abbotsford, Wis. They purchased the J. R. Spencer house and lived there until during his last illness when he was taken to the home of a daughter where he died, Saturday.

He is survived by his widow and six children, Mrs. Alfred (Elsie) Herrmann, Colby; Mrs. Herbert (Malinda) Neuhaus, Colby; Mrs. Alvin (Florence) Thede, Curtiss; Oscar Volkmar, Abbotsford; Mrs. William (Emaline) Thede, Abbotsford; and Miss Alfrieda Volkmar, Owen; 20 grand children; one sister, Mrs. Anna Lehrman, Marshfield; and a brother, Carl Volkmar, Canada.
