Rothnem, Valborg Marie (Marriage - 11 July 1943)

At high noon, Sunday, July 11, Miss Valborg Marie Rothnem, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. B. J. Rothnem of Virginia, Minn., became the bride of Capt. G. Clarence Chronquist, son of Mrs. Eva Chronquist, of Barron, Wis., in Our Savior’s Lutheran church in Virginia.

To the organ music of Lohengrin’s Bridal song, played by Mrs. Earl I. Edes, of Rice Lake, an aunt of the bride, Bobby Hebal, of Abbotsford, bearing two rings on a satin pillow, led the procession.

Miss Gwendolyn Folstad, Abbotsford, niece of the groom, in a dainty frock of white eyelet organdy, and carrying a basket of sweet peas and baby’s breath, was flower girl.

Miss Esther Buvarn, Minneapolis, and Miss Anna Tonette Rothnem, a sister of the bride, of Virginia, were bridesmaids and Miss Barbara Jean Rothnem, Menomonie, was maid of honor to her sister.

The attendants were all dressed alike in white frocks of faille designed on princess lines. They all carried arm bouquets of red and yellow roses and wore natural flowers in their hair.

The bride chose to wear the same wedding gown her sister wore at her wedding. It was made of white satin with long sleeves and a long, circular train. Seed pearls at the sweet heart neck line and small satin buttons down the back trimmed the fitted bodice. Small bows of illusion and ribbon held the three tier veil, one of which she wore over her face until after the ceremony. Stephanotis and baby’s breath, tied with white ribbon on her white prayer book, which her father had given her, and a necklace with three diamonds, of her aunt, completed her ensemble.

Attending the groom was his brother, Dr. Harry Chronquist, Evanston, Ill.

Berthold Rothnem, Duluth, Minn., brother of the bride, and Alister McDonald, Two Harbors, Minn., were ushers.

Tan and brown was the color scheme observed in the attire of the men.

Rev. Rothnem, the bride’s father, read the double ring service, during which soft organ music was played. Tall, white tapers, in armed candelabra, ferns and baskets of peonies and delphiniums were used in the altar and church decorations.

A wedding luncheon for about 30 guests was served at the home of the bride’s parents. Mrs. A. J. Folstad, of Abbotsford, sister of the groom, poured.

Capt. Chronquist and his bride left for Lake Vermillion for a few days and will spend a short time in Abbotsford before they leave for Colorado Springs, where Capt. Chronquist is stationed with the United States Army Dental Corps at Camp Carson.

Before her marriage, the bride taught music and English in the Abbotsford high school, following her graduation from St. Olaf’s College in Northfield, Minn.

The groom, who received his degree as Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Minnesota, was located at Marshfield prior to his enlistment in the army.

Guests from Abbotsford who attended the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Folstad and daughter, Gwendolyn, Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Hutt, Mrs. F. B. Hebal and son, Bobby. Among the other guests was Miss L’Louise Gose, of Crivitz, Wis., a former teacher in Abbotsford, Wis.
